PALs (Parents As Leaders)
2021 - 2022
The Parents as Leaders Leadership Academy is a collaborative leadership program between the parent and the district where we provide support in helping parents reach their full potential as leaders in their community, their school campus, and their home. Parents are given the opportunity to participate in monthly leadership training on a variety of topics that help them:
Increase their confidence by learning the Learning Modules and teaching them to train others.
Expand their capacity by developing adult presentation practice and public speaking opportunities.
Create and establish positive and meaningful relationships among other parents and staff in the district.
Learn the necessary tools and practices to work together and assist their FACE Liaisons in establishing successful family and community engagement.
How to become a PAL
Review and fill out the PALs Interest Form (SPANISH) and turn it into your FACE Liaison.
Schedule or attend a PALs Orientation with your Liaison.
Fill out PALs contract.
Attend monthly District PALs Leadership Academies & monthly school site PALs meetings.
Use the "Reach One, Teach One" method to pass along important information to other parents and community members.

Hello, my name is Antonia Serrano, Family & Community Engagement Representative with the Bakersfield City School District. I am the face of the Parents as Leaders Leadership program. I am excited to be a part of such an incredible team of parents and community members. I strongly believe in the partnership between parents and schools. When parents are involved, children are successful. Being a part of the PALs program gives parents the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills to better support their students along their journey in education and beyond. We hope to see you in our monthly leadership academies.
