When does the season start?
Officially, Monday August 11.
Where is practice?
Practice locations vary based on what we need for the day. Locations include BCHS, BC West Middle, Central Athletic (stadium). The weekly schedule will always be sent out in advance for your planning purposes.
Do I need to attend practice?
Yes. Email Coach Hunter chunter@bcpsk12.net if you must be absent
When do I need to have a physical done?
You must have a valid physical before August 11, or you cannot participate in practice.
Do I need to train in the summer?
The key to good XC teams is summer training. It is not possible to begin training in August and succeed as a cross country team.
How much do I need to train in the summer?
It depends on your training age/grade level. Coach Hunter has training plans for everyone.
How do I earn my varsity letter?
Three ways.
1) Run on a varsity roster (invite or conference or regional) during the season
2) Run XC all four years
3) Run a time standard. Boys: 18:30 Girls: 21:30
Do I need new running shoes?
You SHOULD have a new pair of running shoes for
1) The start of summer training
2) The start of the fall season
Do I need spikes?
Depends. Varsity runners should. JV runners can race in trainers until they are ready for spikes.
Do I need to weight train/do bulldog power?
Would you rather be strong or be weak? Increased strength results in a more resilient runner. Strength training will not create excess bulk when paired with endurance training. The combination of the two will result in a healthy, strong, and fast runner.
