Book Tastings in the library are a wonderful way for students to be introduced to different genres and writing styles. In addition, students can build their personal book lists. A Book Tasting experience can be designed for the remote learning environment for any content area. The example shared here was designed for Spanish classes.

2.7 Provides online opportunities for students to use library resources for research, individual exploration, independent reading, and personal inquiry.
Before I contacted the Spanish teachers for this lesson, I designed the Book Tasting PowerPoint, the Padlet, and created the Spanish-related Destiny Collection. I sent an email to the teachers requesting some time for a book tasting; they welcomed the idea because they were in their story unit. I also showed the students how to access Spanish videos in TumbleBooks in the slideshow.

Impact on the library program and students and/or teachers:
Students can easily access targeted eBooks via Destiny Collections.
Students have choice in selecting eBooks from Destiny or TumbleBooks
Students have a wide selection of resources to check out for content learning or entertainment.
Students shared which eBooks interested them most on Padlet.
Teachers and peers can comment on Padlet.
Teachers and LMS can expose students to different genres and increase independent reading.
Lynell reflects on this remote practice:
I wanted the book tasting to be entertaining to the students, so I created a restaurant atmosphere even though it was a virtual event. The teachers were excited for their students to have an opportunity to browse through Spanish digital resources. As the librarian, I was thrilled the students were exposed to more options.
