The use of Slam Dunks and research models to support content curriculum allows students to practice using digital resources and learning/applying information literacy skills. Slam Dunks can be customized for remote learning and to meet the particular needs of students, and can be completed semi-independently.
Translation of Practice alignment:
Domain 1: Planning & Preparation
1.1: Collaborates with teachers in virtual meetings to plan and implement instructional lessons and units that integrate information literacy skills and resources with content curriculum.
Revisions to a Grade 6 ELA Slam Dunk were based on LMS collaboration with a teacher to address student needs in the remote learning environment. The revised Slam Dunk was shared with the teacher who pushed it out to students in Schoology.
After the original Slam Sunk was revised, another teacher wanted to do the lesson for her class, so we made another revision. Links to both revisions are included under Models/Examples on the right.
Lisa reflects on this remote practice.
Impact on the library program and students and/or teachers:
Opportunity to co-plan and co-teach with an instructional partner
Students made connections to a real world situation relevant to current events involving civil disobedience, in addition to building background knowledge for ELA curriculum/novel.
An update from Kelly ...
This summer during curriculum writing, several Slam Dunks were created in Schoology materials format.
You will find these in a folder in the Secondary Library Media Group > Resources > Slam Dunk Schoology Versions folder.
There is a Schoology Slam Dunk template for copy/pasting from a Slam Dunk to Schoology pages.
