The following instructional packets are available for download. For our families without internet access, this information will be mailed home. Please allow some time for these to arrive.
English Learners in BCPS will continue to have supplemental instruction during the COVID 19 school closure. Students who are level 3-4 will continue to receive collaborative services as EL teachers work with general education teachers to make instruction accessible and accommodate as needed. The EL teachers will preview all packets prior to sending out to students. The EL teacher will make accommodations as needed for each EL student. Students who are level 1-2, including newcomers, will have increased scaffolding in addition to the services described above, including but not limited to bilingual texts, direct language acquisition materials, and more intense and broad vocabulary lessons. Teachers will provide at minimum weekly documented check ins with students, as well as their general education teachers. All communication with general education teachers, EL families, and EL students will be logged in a google document.
For students in BTEC programs, you may have additional information from BTEC.
For specialized programs, such as EL services, special education, Virginia Western Community College, Dabney Sue Lancaster Community College, Roanoke Valley Governor's School, and Jackson River Governor's School, please see the Specialized Services resource below.

While school is not in session, our School Counseling Center will be delivering services to students and families. If your child is having difficulty with coping with heightened stress or you (as the parent/guardian) are experiencing challenges talking about the COVID-19 with your child, or if you would like to consult with your child's counselor, he or she is available during Monday-Friday during regular school hours. Counselors will be checking their emails. Information regarding counseling services has been sent to parents/guardians through each school.
The School Counseling Office will continue to stay in contact with their students and parents regarding upcoming deadlines for scholarships, VWCC Regional Academy applications, and college applications. Any forthcoming information regarding standardized testing (i.e., AP, SAT, and ACT) will also be communicated through each school's counseling department.
