The ELD Office continues to develop and facilitate a variety of PD opportunities around best practices for support MLs throughout each school year and summer. Below, you will find information on upcoming PD opportunities for content teachers and other non-ELD staff focused on multilingual learners.
SY 24-25 Professional Learning Arcs for Content Teachers
The following Arcs of Learning will be offered for non-ELD staff during choice sessions in November, February, March and May of SY 24.25:
Introduction to Supporting MLs: This professional learning series will introduce educators to some of the basic strategies and key knowledge essential to supporting the increasing number of linguistically diverse students across Baltimore City Schools. Participants will develop an understanding of the linguistic and cultural backgrounds of their students, WIDA Proficiency levels, best practices for supporting multilingual families, and differentiation strategies to support MLs.
Applying Strategies to Support MLs in the Content Areas: This professional learning series is intended for teachers in all content areas and grade levels - with the exception of ESOL and World Languages - who have a good understanding of some basic best practices for supporting MLs and are looking to further improve their practice when it comes to this student population through collaborative learning and implementation of specific strategies. To participate in this course, participants must have previously completed either the course Introduction to Supporting MLs OR both the MLs 101 and 102 sessions offered during SY 23-24.
