Device Best Practices

Storage

Cloud Storage

Microsoft OneDrive, and Google Drive are the recommended locations for storing student work and files. Both offer unlimited storage for students and staff alike. Storing files locally to "My Documents" or another location on the computer is no longer available to users. Files stored locally will be erased at logout.

Updates

Devices are Regularly Updated by ITD

In order to receive updates, it is recommended that devices remain powered on while stored in charging carts, or in a desktop lab setting. This will ensure devices receive updates when available. Failure to keep devices powered on can result in the device forcing an update installation during class time.

Management

SMART Sync 2011

Classroom management for your devices

Baltimore City Schools licenses available for the SMART Sync classroom management software.

While this software is outdated, and users experience many connection issues, it is still something that you can have installed if you wish. Ideal environments are a desktop lab (not server setup) or set of laptops that connect to the same teacher machine daily.

For installation on your devices, contact servicedesk@bcps.k12.md.us

Features of SMART Sync include:

  • Send websites
  • View student screens
  • Lock screens
  • Block websites
  • And more!
