Emergency Broadband Benefit

City Schools Families! Did you know that all City School families are eligible for up to $50 to help pay for Internet Access?Congress passed a bill authorizing the FCC to launch the $3.2 billion Emergency Broadband Benefit program. Families are able to use this benefit either on a mobile broadband plan from providers like T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T or for fixed broadband from Comcast. Funding for this program may end in approximately 4 to 6 months but Congress is currently working on a plan to extend the benefit. If you have any specific questions regarding EBB, feel free to contact Shawn Gross.

Please share these infographics with your school families. (English & Spanish) For more information to share with families regarding this program please visittinyurl.com/getinternetaccess or visit the resources we have published on the City School’s Website.

Grocery boxes delivered to your home

(English, Spanish, French, Korean, Chinese, Arabic): Baltimore City is partnering with Amazon to deliver grocery boxes to residents who:

  • Currently have no food at home or will run out before you can buy more

  • Can't afford paid meal or grocery delivery

  • Are experiencing financial, social, or medical hardships due to COVID-19

Here's a copy of the City's plan for food distribution guidance.

Domestic Emergencies

Safety Strategies:

  • Identify your guardian or partner’s use and level of force so that you can assess the risk of physical danger to you and your children before it occurs.

  • Identify safe areas of the house where there are no weapons and there are ways to escape. If arguments occur, try to move to those areas.

  • Don’t run to where the children are, as your guardian or partner may hurt them as well.

  • If violence is unavoidable, make yourself a small target. Dive into a corner and curl up into a ball with your face protected and arms around each side of your head, fingers entwined.

  • If possible, have a phone accessible at all times and know what numbers to call for help. Know where the nearest public phone is located. Know the phone number to your local shelter. If your life is in danger, call the police.

  • Let trusted friends and neighbors know of your situation and develop a plan and visual signal for when you need help.

  • Teach children how to get help. Instruct them not to get involved in the violence between you and your partner. Plan a code word to signal to them that they should get help or leave the house.

  • Tell children that violence is never right, even when someone they love is being violent. Tell them that neither you, nor they, are at fault or are the cause of the violence, and that when anyone is being violent, it is important to stay safe.

  • Practice how to get out safely. Practice with children.

  • Plan for what you will do if your children tells your partner of your plan or if your partner otherwise finds out about your plan.

  • Keep weapons like guns and knives locked away and as inaccessible as possible.

  • Make a habit of backing the car into the driveway and keeping it fueled. Keep the driver’s door unlocked and others locked — for a quick escape.

  • Try not to wear scarves or long jewelry that could be used to strangle you.

  • Create several plausible reasons for leaving the house at different times of the day or night.

Bullying Support

Forest Park recognizes that all students have the right to a safe, supportive school environment. Bullying, harassment, or intimidation will not be tolerated.

If you or a student you know is experiencing bullying or harassment, seek help by contacting a counselor and/or school administrator.

Click here for info on Baltimore City Schools' policies and procedures on bullying.

Communicating with Parents: Protocols

If there is an emergency, your school or the district will share information with parents through all available and appropriate channels, depending on the situation. These channels can include phone calls, text messages, website and social media updates,or announcements from local t.v. or radio stations.

It is absolutely essential that families ensure that their school has up‑to‑date contact information at all times, including emergency contact numbers, so that they can be reached with important information. You can check and update your contact information through Campus Portal.

Emergency situations can develop quickly. Check the School Calendar for scheduled programs or events dealing with emergencies.

Picking Up Your Child

  • Talk to your child about emergency preparations, and make sure he or she knows that there are plans in place at your school to ensure all students’ safety.

  • If you learn that there is an emergency situation, please do not go immediately to your school to pick up your child. In many cases, students are safest inside the building, or the building may be locked. Also, please do not call the school, because staff may need to keep phone lines open. Instead, wait to hear from City Schools about any action you should take.

  • If you are asked to pick up your child, either at the school or a different location, please follow instructions about pick‑up procedures, locations, parking, etc., closely. Remember to bring a photo ID with you, since children will be released only to adults authorized to pick them up.

  • In situations that include police response, communications may come from the Baltimore Police Department and be sent according to that agency’s policies and procedures.
