Baltimore City Public Schools holds History Day Event
50 Students advancing to Maryland State History Day Competition.
On March 18, 2023, more than 284 talented students participated in the Baltimore City History Day Contest on March 18, 2023. Winners were chosen for both individual and group efforts from five different categories—research papers, exhibits, performances, websites, and documentaries. The 50 winners, 28 projects, will move on to the Maryland State History Day Contest on May 6, 2023. State competition winners will proceed to the National History Day Competition in Washington, D.C.
The program of Maryland Humanities now in its 21st year, Maryland History Day involves more than 28,000 students at the school level, representing 22 counties and Baltimore City. Students research topics that address the National History Day theme and participate in school and county competitions to qualify for the state contest. The 2023 theme is “Frontiers In History.”
The Annual Jutras Prize
Each year, Mr. Dennis Jutras the Baltimore City Schools Gifted and Talented Coordinator, sponsors a special cash prize. Students are nominated for the prize by their teachers.
Work which is original
Work which is error-free
Work which incorporates a wide range of primary and secondary sources (or exceptional secondary sources if primary sources are not available – as is the case for topics related to ancient history)
Work which is solid in all components (process paper, annotated bibliography, product, and presentation)
Work that exemplifies the level to which all NHD projects from your school should aspire
Work produced by a student or students who demonstrated enthusiasm and excitement throughout the learning process - the spirit of NHD
