BSoR School Counseling

Mission Statement

The mission of the BSoR School Counseling Department is to provide a comprehensive, developmental program that promotes the academic, career and social/emotional development of all students. School counselors are committed to assisting students in exploring, developing and pursuing their goals while preparing them to be responsible, motivated, well-rounded and successful citizens.

Academic Support

Benedictine Schools of Richmond offers a challenging and rigorous academic experience while providing the necessary support to meet the learning needs of all students. Students have the opportunity to challenge themselves with 14 AP and numerous honors courses throughout their four years at BSoR.

Social and Emotional Support

Our school counselors promote, support, and enhance healthy student development throughout their time at Benedictine and Saint Gertrude. Our goal is for our students to feel empowered and supported as they grow in mind, body, and spirit. Through classroom lessons, small group meetings, and individual counseling sessions, we promote the importance of self-care, healthy decision-making, conflict resolution, and balance in life.

College & Career Counseling

Our rigorous college preparatory curriculum prepares students for the academic demands of college. Both in and out of the classroom, students are educated and prepared for the next steps that they will take in their education. During the extensive college search and application process, our school counselors support, guide, and encourage our students with their next steps after graduation.

The college process is a meaningful time of personal growth as students engage in self-discovery, self-advocacy, goal-setting, and decision-making. Our goal is for the students to take ownership of the college application process by identifying their strengths, determining objectives for the future, and creating a plan to succeed.

Beginning with underclassmen, our counselors guide course registration of each student to ensure he/she is on the path to success based on his/her goals for the future. During junior year, counselors start the intensive college planning process with individual student conferences.

Senior year, the college counselor meets with each student to ensure their  the college application process is smooth and as stress-free as possible. Throughout the entire process, our school counselors work with students and their families to maximize choices that best suit students' interests and aspirations.
