2017 TESTIMONIALS

Burnaby City Manger Lambert Chu says, "The event was well organized and has provided the participants with a greater appreciation of the difficult and dangerous situations firefighters encounter in their daily work. It was also a great learning day for the participants learning from the very best and experiencing first hand in fire fighting and rescue work in a safe and controlled environment.

Jennifer Leyen, WorkSafe BC says "It was a fabulous experience! I didn't find the day easy, but I was challenged in all the right ways. The weight of the equipment was draining; the physical challenges associated with dragging hoses and being exposed to the heat of fire was shocking in its intensity. The experience gave me insight into the physical challenges that fire fighters face on a daily basis. Plus, the support and encouragement that the fire fighters gave me to succeed and get through the day was truly appreciated!"

Saverio Lattanzio, Surrey 1271 Vice President",  Thank you for allowing Local 1271 to participate in this valuable event.   As this was my second time being a wrangler, I can personally attest to the impact of this program.  Two years ago one of the Safety Mangers from the City of Surrey was invited to participate in being a Fire Fighter for a day.  In short, this person only lasted a fraction of the time, completing only 2 of the physical stations.  As a result of this experience, this manger is much more sympathetic to needs of the Fire Fighters working in the City of Surrey.  In fact, at our most recent monthly Safety meeting this manager was encouraging and promoting the idea of enhanced periodic psychological and physical testing for Fire Fighters due to the nature of our industry.  Their opinion of Fire Fighting has permanently shifted dramatically and this due to the excellent work of the BCPFFA.
