Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) is now accepting applications from young people in Berkshire to join the Service’s Summer Internship Scheme.
The Internship aims to encourage 18-year-olds from backgrounds that are underrepresented within the Service to explore some of the many roles available to them in the fire and rescue sector.
Each intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable real-world work experience and transferable skills working alongside teams within the Service. During the Scheme, the interns will also participate in learning and development workshops, as well as visits to several fire stations across Berkshire.
Claudia Trott, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead at RBFRS, said: “Our Internship is an exciting opportunity for young people who may not have otherwise considered a career in the fire and rescue service. The Scheme offers our Interns a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills and enhance their future career prospects.”
“As a Service, we are committed to engaging with young people in our communities and expanding career pathways into the fire and rescue service. The Internship allows the Service to better connect with the people we serve and offers us valuable insight into the needs of our communities.”
The Service is looking for four interns to join the scheme for five weeks in the summer, from Thursday, 4 July to Friday, 9 August. As part of the Internship, each successful applicant will be paid an hourly wage of £10.66.
To qualify for the Internship, applicants must live in Berkshire, be 18 years old and come from an ethnic group that is under-represented in Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
