Single-Stream Recycling
Boston College uses single-stream recycling, which means you can throw all your recyclables in one bin without any need to sort them. However, make sure to rinse containers before recycling them, and do not recycle plastic bags. Blue “single-stream” signs are located on receptacles outside of most academic halls. Additionally, there are recycling bins in all of the residence halls.

Composting is good for the environment and reduces methane gas in landfills. Compost can be turned into a natural fertilizer, adding nutrient-rich soil to the land and promoting biodiversity. Dining staff will compost for you in Corcoran Commons, McElroy Commons, Lyons Hall and Stuart Dining Hall. All food that you haven't eaten goes into the compost bin. BC's Food waste is picked up by Save That Stuff, a recycling and waste processing facility in Charlestown, Massachusetts. This waste is eventually broken down and harvested as biofuel, a form of renewable energy.
