April's Grad Hacks
Ideas to assist you in your graduate school journey.
Tips to remain stress-free as we say goodbye to pool days and hello to school days.
Daily Non-Negotiables: Morning or evening routines can reduce anxiety and create consistency. Exercise or journaling, even for just 10 minutes, can make your whole day better.
Find Your Rhythm: Plans are great, but it is important to allow for change. In the first few weeks, try reviewing your syllabi, breaking down key dates, and setting 1-3 priorities per week. This way, when the pace picks up, you’ll be ready.
Sustainability is Key: Grad school isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon. Sleep and nutrition are crucial tools for performance, so even though one more episode of tv before bed or just a cup of coffee for breakfast might be tempting, try to prioritize healthy habits.
We're in This Together: Grad school can be isolating, whether in-person or online, but connecting with classmates, study groups, and campus organizations helps. Professors and advisors are also eager to support you. Get to know the people around you, and success is sure to follow.
Moving to a new city can be difficult, so here are a few tips to help you adjust.
Join a Group: Whether at BC or beyond, connecting with others can help you de-stress and feel more at home. Clubs, casual sports teams, or volunteer organizations are great places to start.
Be a Tourist: When you need a break from studying, explore some of the sites everyone talks about. This will also help you get to know your surroundings and find local spots that are sure to become favorites.
Keep in Touch: A lot is new right now, but everything doesn’t have to be. Stay connected with your friends and family through calls, texts, etc. The familiarity just might be a breath of fresh air.
