A DRP is a “Directed Reading Program” which pairs undergraduate math students with graduate or faculty mentors for a semester-long reading project. You can find the list of proposed projects with details about prerequisites and reference materials by clicking on the Projects tab above.
Projects range from working towards understanding a particular theorem to reading chapters from a book.
For mentees:
About 2 hours per week working on the reading
One meeting with your mentor each week, approximately an hour
Give a short presentation or a poster to the other participants (and interested audience) at the end of the semester
Submit a short summary/abstract (roughly between one paragraph and half a page) of what you have studied during the semester. This is a good chance to practice writing and to elaborate on things you might not have been able to cover on the presentation!
Gain one-on-one mentoring from a current graduate student.
Get to know other students and mentors at DRP social events.
Learn some cool math outside the standard curriculum. This can be particularly helpful if you are considering graduate school and wish to explore some more mathematics.
Learn background material for future reading course or research project.
