I have been a dancer for many years, and in my junior year, I took the opportunity to apply and audition for Governor's School for the Arts for dance. I was accepted and given the scholarship to attend this three-week summer intensive going into my senior year. I danced from 8 am to 8:30 pm, working countless hours on ballet and contemporary technique and improving upon my artistry, concluded by a performance. I knew that this intensive would be a time when I would learn a lot about dance and grow as a dancer, but I did not realize how influential it would be in shifting me to a different career path. As I got up each morning to go to the studio, I realized how much joy it brought me to dance day after day. I found dance got me out of bed in the morning and is something I don't want to stop after high school. Through this experience, I also made friendships that will last a lifetime and developed relationships with teachers who truly cared for me and my future in dance. One particular teacher happily zoomed with me on multiple occasions afterward, helping me research college dance programs and helping me find schools that would best fit me. Governor's School was not just a fun summer program but indeed a life-changing experience. --Trinity Phillips, Class of 2022
