Kong Qiu; Kongzi; K'ung Fu-Tzu; Kong Fuzi
"Confucius" = the name given to him by Latin scholars later in history
According to Emam Elshaikh, writing for Khan Academy, Confucius was born in 551 BCE in Zou (modern Shandong Province).
He witnessed many wars and social unrest during his lifetime.
He believed that a return to the beliefs, values, and rituals of the Zhou Dynasty would help heal his own society.
Confucius worked as an advisor for various powerful families, hoping to make the government more virtuous, stable, and effective. He believed that education, self-reflection, and respect for humanity were the keys for success. His teachings inspired others who also wished to reform government and society, and eventually, they believed the power of Heaven was on their side. He and his disciples served the government of China for years.
