This site is designed to enable you, as a student and a lifelong learner, to continue learning even while at home. Your teachers will be providing updates to this site and work to allow you to continue your learning journey. We will provide a range of activities for you to do.
Each student must ensure they have read the expectation around home learning. If you have any questions, please ensure you include them in your email to your teacher.
Teachers will be checking their email during normal school hours, so please understand emails sent outside of these times may not be seen or responded to until the next day.
Feel free to share your learning journey with your family or anyone else at home as they may be interested in what you are learning.
Dear parents, caregivers and students of BBI,
I hope you are all coping with the Level 3 Alert restrictions. This is a setback but I am sure we will handle it well, as our community did last time.
The MOE confirmed that students/parents may access school to collect essential learning materials under Alert Level 3. To ensure this runs smoothly, with good hygiene protocols being followed, Room 24, 25, 26 and 27 will be available to access from 9:30am - 10:30am on Monday 17th August for those who require any items from the classroom.
Please wear a mask or face covering, practice social distancing and sanitise hands when entering the classroom.
Team Totara Teachers will meet with students at 9am daily via Google meets and links will be shared closer to the time. Please refer back to the Team Totara Distance Learning site for information about the daily plan which will be uploaded and ready to go for Monday morning. Here is the link if you need it - https://sites.google.com/bbi.school.nz/team-totara-distance-learning/home
Specialist teachers will have activities available and the link will be available on the Team Totara site on Monday.
Mathex is available at 11am
ESOL is available at 10am

Monday 20th April.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We trust that you are all coping with the circumstances of the Level 4 lockdown.
We want to inform you of our plans for teaching and learning for the start of term 2.
Online lessons resume on Tuesday 28 April. It has been impressive to see how disciplined the students have been with their lessons and it has been especially rewarding to see the students engaging with the specialist teachers too. Teachers will send out a reminder email to the students, the weekend before we resume. Please ask your child to look out for this email so they can be prepared for their google hangout, meet or zoom session on Tuesday 28 April.
All students were given some optional activities to carry out over the 2 week holiday break, we do hope they managed some of these tasks.
After 4 weeks of 'Alert Level 4' the government has announced that the country will be moving to 'Alert Level 3'. This level will allow schools to open with some staff, property people, construction workers and cleaners. They will prepare the school for all the students to return. As you can imagine, we have not completed all our holiday cleaning and construction work. We want the school to be best prepared and safe for our next step.
We do realise that at Level 3 some families will be considering their return to school. We are unable to guarantee the 2 metre separation rule and the hygiene standards. We feel we just cannot open the school to community visitors, so please if you can keep your child at home then this is the safest option. Teachers will be teaching remotely throughout 'Alert Level 3'.
Could you please reply to this email and let us know that you have received this information and if you have an essential need to send your child to school at 'Alert Level 3' then we need to know.
Please we appreciate your reply to the class teacher ............@bbi.school.nz stating:
my child (student's name) will not be returning to school at 'Alert Level 3' or
my child (student's name) will be returning to school at 'Alert Level 3'
From here, we can start preparing our return to school strategy.
We do hope that 'Alert Level 3' quickly moves to 'Alert Level 2' and we can see the students at school face to face.
Thank you for your support over this time.
With regards,
Diane Parkinson.
Dear Families,
Thank you to everyone for the participation and self direction of the distance learning. BBI will be continuing 'Google Meets' over the next 2 weeks. As of April 9, the teaching staff will choose to take a holiday break.
Optional 'Meets' may still take place and some students could still choose to work through independent assignments.
BBI has approval from the Secretary of Education to vary their holiday dates.
Teachers will keep families informed. Otherwise please check the front page of our website for latest updates.
Keep safe,
Diane Parkinson
