Dear Kindergarten Families,
You may have heard your child mention that we have begun Walk to Intervention (WIN) in our classroom!
Our WIN block takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays and will continue for at least the next six weeks. During this dedicated time, students may move to a different classroom or work with a different teacher. This flexible grouping allows us to best meet each child’s individual learning needs.
Our team of teachers includes Mrs. Makuch, Mrs. Pagan, and Mrs. Tomford. Together, we work to provide differentiated instruction that focuses specifically on the skills your child is currently developing—whether that means extra practice to strengthen a concept or additional challenges to extend learning.
WIN time is a valuable opportunity for targeted instruction and we are excited to see the growth that will come from it!
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

I am excited to announce a Guest Mystery Reader Program in our Kindergarten classroom! What is a Mystery Reader? This is a special opportunity for guest readers to visit our classroom and share a favorite book with the students. Starting in February, we will welcome one volunteer every Thursday from 1:20 PM – 1:40 PM. The identity of the reader is kept a secret until they walk through the door! To build the suspense, please provide 3 clues about yourself to be presented to the class on the morning of your visit. You can send these clues to me via email at least 24 hours before your scheduled date. You may simply come and read, or you have the option to bring small props or a simple, non-edible souvenir related to the book. If you haven’t chosen a book yet, you may list it as "TBD" on the sign-up, but please update it once decided so we can avoid duplicate stories.
Sign-Up Details
One Slot Per Family: To ensure everyone has a chance to participate, please sign up for only one slot. (Note: Both parents are welcome to attend together during that single slot!)
Background Checks: All visitors must have a background check completed through the district's vendor, SecureVolunteer.
Waitlist: If all slots are full, please let me know; I will add more dates as the year progresses.

Dear Kindergarten Families,
Since we had our first big snowfall, I want to send a friendly reminder about winter gear. Please help your child practice getting into/out of his/her coat and be sure your child can zip it. It really saves precious class time if the children are able to independently get ready to go outside. We will be going out for recess throughout the winter (unless the wind chill is too low). It is not an option for the kids to stay inside. Don’t forget, your child will need to wear boots to school daily and have a dry pair of shoes to change into upon arriving at school. Please start sending your child in boots daily as soon as the snow falls. Snow pants are also a great idea. Lastly, could you please be sure that your child’s items are all labeled with his/her name? Many times the children cannot recognize their items especially if they all look alike!

Dear Kindergarten Families,
Thank you to all our families that planned, donated, and helped make the Halloween party a huge success. The kids had a blast! I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed the extra hour of sleep. We needed it after all the excitement Halloween brought.
This week we will finish our Knowledge Unit on Kings and Queens . We have been having a BALL learning about Kings and Queens, as well as listening to many different royal fairy tales. As a culminating activity, we will be having a “Royal Ball” on Tuesday, November 4th and your child is welcome to dress up for the occasion! Possible Attire: Dresses, prince or princess costumes, costume jewelry (no real jewelry), suit, dress, slacks, tie, and anything else that makes them feel FANCY. Please make sure your child wears P.E. appropriate shoes for P.E. and/or recess. Thank you.
The weather is changing every day. Please make sure your child is dressed for the colder weather because we go out to recess twice a day. As it gets colder, please make sure your child’s name is on jackets, hats, gloves and mittens. Even initials will help us know who the items belong to – many look the same! When the time comes to wear boots, he/she needs shoes to wear in school. Please practice tying, buttoning and zipping. Lot of precious class time and recess time is wasted when I have to stop and help each child get on their coat and help zip and/or button up coats. Thank you!

Dear Kindergarten Families,
Please be sure to fill out the Google Form below for my head room parent so she can begin putting together our class roster/class directory. We have 3 families that we still need information from. Please get this filled out as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation.
This week we wrapped up our first unit in Knowledge title "Nursery Rhymes". We celebrated by hosting our 1st Annual Nursery Rhyme Olympics. We traveled to 3 different pretend countries (classrooms) and played different games such as "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Build a Tower" and "Little Miss Muffet Spider Fling"-just to name a few. I posted pictures of our event in the pictures section of my website for you to enjoy. We will be starting Knowledge Unit 2: The Five Senses this week.
We are in Unit 3 of Skills in our CKLA Language Arts program. In this unit, we will be introduced to "tricky words". Tricky words are words that do not follow spelling rules and will have to be memorized. By the end of Unit 3, students should be able to recognize and read the following words easily. These words are: one, two, three. This Wednesday, I will send home a parent letter along with flashcards with these words. Please use the flashcards and keep them in a safe place and have your child practice reading the words several times a week. As more tricky words are introduced, I will continue to send home flashcards for each word. Thank you for your support!
I will also be sending home some of our classroom assessments from our Skills and Knowledge Units for you to review and see how your child is progressing so far in kindergarten.
At BBHES we recognize and reward expectational PAX leaders: Bee Your Best Beestro, Character Counts, and Tootle Slide Winners. Remember PAX leaders are students who make choices for themselves that affect the way others feel to make our school a peaceful, safe and happy place to learn and play.
The Bee Your Best Beestro is a special luncheon that is delightfully set-up on our stage during each grade level lunch period. One student from each classroom is nominated by their teacher for consistently exhibiting PAX Leader choices. These children are invited to eat lunch on the stage with the other PAX Leaders, receive a crown and are praised and joined by building and district administration. Congratulations to Nathan who enjoyed lunch at the Beestro last Friday as our PAX Leader for the month of September!
For Character Counts, each month, BBHES will focus on a different character trait of a good PAX leader to help bring self awareness to certain characteristics. We will be on the lookout for students who display these character traits. Approximately 5 teachers per grade level will nominate one student per month who has represented that Character Counts trait/word the most during that specific month. Those students will receive a book token for the Book Vending Machine. The word and color for October is Responsibility.
PAX Tootles are special notes that any staff member can give to any student. All the Tootles for a grade level are put into a lottery. Names are pulled out of the pot each week and those winners get to go down the slide. Their photos are always posted in Mrs. Toth's newsletter.

This means they need to always write the first letter of their name with an uppercase letter followed by lowercase letters using correct letter formation and correct pencil grip. Consistent practice at home can help reinforce what we are learning in class. (Example: "Sarah" not "SARAH" or "sarah"). Please view the letter formation chart that will be attached to your child's Skills 2 assessment that will come home on Monday. Thank you :)

Have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy the sunshine!
-Mrs. Moroney :)
Dear Kindergarten Families,
Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and spent some time outdoors enjoying the beautiful sunshine. Today was the 10th Day of Kindergarten! I continue to be so very proud of all of my kindergarten students. They all are catching on to all of our school and classroom rules and procedures. This past week we talked about what it means to be a PAX Leader at BBHES and the students learned about expected and unexpected behaviors. An unexpected behavior is also known at BBHES as a "spleem".
Please remember to check your child's take home folder DAILY. There are times when a child places papers into the mailbox that I have passed out the previous day. Then, I have no way of knowing who they belong to.
On Friday, I sent home information about ordering books from Scholastic. Scholastic books are a great way to build your child's home library with quality materials at a significant savings. You can access books from preschool through middle school for younger/older siblings/family. Books make great gifts, too. Below is the link to order books. The first time you log in you will need to create an account with our class code: L9KN9 . You can choose to have your book order shipped to our classroom or directly to your home. Every order earns Bonus Points for FREE Books and resources for our class! Please feel free to share this link and our class code with extended family and neighbors. They get the savings and our class gets the rewards:) Thank you for your support.

Last week, your child got to go visit the school library for book check out time during specials. The library book they have checked out needs to be returned the next time they visit the media center/library. I will do my best to always remember to post the specials schedule for the week in my weekly updates. When the day says "book check out" day you will know they are visiting the library that day and library books are due. I find it best that your child keeps their library book in their bookbags at all times. Of course, I want them to use the book at home so when they are finished, please have them immediately put it back in their backpacks so it does not get lost and they always have it. If your child does not have their library book to return on "book check out" day, they cannot check out another book until it is returned.
Please be sure to read the family letters that come home regarding what your child is learning in English Language Arts (ELA: CKLA-Knowledge and Skills) and Ready Math. Those letters provide you with the most accurate insight into our curriculum and what you can do to support your child's learning at home. My website will mostly focus on updating you on general classroom happenings, reminders, and updates.
I would like to introduce to you a very special person that will be a part of our classroom this school year. Mrs. Tomford is one of our reading intervention teachers and she will be helping out and providing extra support during center time.
SPECIALS for the Week of September 8th:

-Mrs. Moroney :)
Dear Kindergarten Families,
We have had a successful 1st week of Kindergarten. I am enjoying getting to know all of my students. Everyone is off to a great start and have adjusted so well to the classroom and to our school.
I want to thank all the parents for all of the extra supply donations. The extra supplies will be put to good use this school year. I appreciate everyone's generosity.
Please remember to check your child's take home folder DAILY. There are times when a child places papers into the mailbox that I have passed out the previous day. Then, I have no way of knowing who they belong to.
We have snack time everyday in Kindergarten. Please pack your child a healthy NUT FREE/PEANUT FREE snack daily and label it with your child's name along with the word "snack" so there is no confusion.
SPECIALS: On Tuesday, September 2nd we will be on Day 3 of our SPECIALS rotations.
Tuesday: MUSIC
Wednesday: Book Check Out
Thursday: PE
Friday: STEM
I wanted to let you know what to expect regarding curriculum updates and school wide updates this school year. I will not be posting updates on our curriculum or updates. Instead, you will receive hard copy newsletters directly from our curriculum:
Ready Math – Math newsletters will come home at the start of each lesson (usually on Mondays). These will give you an overview of what your child will be learning during that week.
CKLA Skills – A Skills newsletter will come home in two parts. The first newsletter will come home at the beginning of each unit and give an overview of tricky words and concepts being taught in that unit. You will also get daily practice pages that describe
Tips for supporting your child at home
Topics to discuss with your child about their learning
Tricky words
Phonemic awareness skills we are practicing
CKLA Knowledge – A Knowledge newsletter will come home by unit and will share what your child is learning in this part of our curriculum.
School Events and News-Mrs. Toth sends out a weekly newsletter to families with important information regarding school events, reminders, and news. You should have received her 2nd one of the year Sunday around 1pm. If you are not on her mailing list, please make sure you sign up here!
If there is anything important for you to know regarding our classroom only, I will post an update on my website under "Class News". I will also send out a Remind text on the Remind app letting you know that I have updated my website.
Please be sure that the Skills 1 workbook from our CKLA program that you took home on your child's phase-in day stays at home and not in your child's bookbag. I have seen many of these workbooks in bookbags and they are meant for home only and completing the pages in the book are optional.
Thank you for your continued support—I’m looking forward to a great year of learning together!
Enjoy Labor Day weekend!
-Mrs. Moroney :)
