I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  This week we will be launching our Center Spots. Our Center Spots include listening to reading, word work, chromebooks, building, and teacher spot.  In the coming weeks, I will begin introducing Math Centers.

Please be sure to read the family letters that come home regarding what your child is learning in English Language Arts (ELA:  CKLA) and Math.  Those letters provide you with the most accurate insight into our curriculum and what you can do to support your child's learning at home.

Scholastic books are a great way to build your child's home library with quality materials at a significant savings. You can access books from preschool through middle school for younger/older siblings/family. Books make great gifts, too. Below is the link to order books. Dear Kindergarten Families,

I hope everyone had a fantastic Labor Day Weekend!  The students are doing so well learning our schedule and routines.  Most are able to remember their lunch plan without reminders.  They are sitting and listening to the nursery rhymes and able to name the rhyming words, identify the characters and main events. The children are counting words in sentences and tracking lines to prepare for reading instruction. The "crocodile" pencil grip is holding  a writing utensil to make vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and circular lines. Their use of positional vocabulary in math is being used throughout the school day. Most impressively, they are being amazing PAX leaders! I am so excited for a fabulous year together!

We have spent some time exploring our student chrome books.  The children were excited to spend some time using the many different websites on our Kindergarten Homepage.

This past week, your child got to go visit the school library for book check out time during specials.  The library book they have checked out needs to be returned the next time they visit the media center/library.  I will do my best to always remember to post the specials schedule for the week in my weekly updates.  When the day says "book check out" day you will know they are visiting the library that day and library books are due.  I find it best that your child keeps their library book in their bookbags at all times.  Of course, I want them to use the book at home so when they are finished, please have them immediately put it back in their backpacks so it does not get lost and they always have it.  If your child does not have their library book to return on "book check out" day, they cannot check out another book until it is returned.  Thank you!

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Our first week of school is complete and what a fun week it was.   I am so proud of my kinder students.  They are working hard on learning all of the classroom rules, routines, and school procedures.

On the very first day we read the story Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes to help us get familiar with our new school.  After reading the story, we went on a scavenger hunt around the building searching for Pete and following his clues.  On our hunt for Pete we discovered where the media center is, the field house, art room, cafeteria, play ground, and clinic.   Then the students drew their favorite place to visit in their new school. 

Throughout the week the students had the opportunity to explore some of the "EXTRAS" we have around the classroom.  The children did a wonderful job building with blocks, legos, gears, shelf items, art counter, and play doh.  

We had some fun learning each other's names by reading the book and playing the game "Who Stole the Cookies from the Cookie Jar?"

We have also started Unit 1 in Skills and Unit 1 in Knowledge.  Our Knowledge Unit theme is Nursery Rhymes.  In Skills, we have been practicing correct pencil grip, learning left to right progression, and practicing early handwriting strokes.

This newsletter will mostly focus upon updating you on general classroom happenings, reminders, and updates.  

Please remember to check your child's take home folder DAILY.  There are times when a child places papers into the mailbox that I have passed out the previous day.  Then, I have no way of knowing who they belong to. 

We have snack time everyday in Kindergarten. Please pack your child a healthy snack daily and label it with your child's name along with the word "snack" so there is no confusion.  If your child's snack requires a spoon, please provide that with your child's snack because there are no utensils in the classroom.

Anytime you have a dismissal change, please send me note and/or email for the dismissal change for your child so I have a paper trail and I am able to double check with the PikMyKid app.  Thank you.

I want to thank all the parents for all of the extra supply donations.  The extra supplies will be put to good use this school year.  I appreciate everyone's generosity.
