What is practiced in your library:
Our school library is essential to our students' mental wellness. Some of what we do each day to support our students:
Support and promote Bibliotherapeutic practices and reading for pleasure
Resources that support emotional, mental, and physical wellness
Empowering through reading and teaching life-long literacy standards
Completely quiet half of library with study cubbies
Information access and help all day
Games and activities to interact with peers
Comfy seating to relax and unwind
Full-time teacher/support person who develops relationships with students over 4 years.
Stress balls, Play doh, lego, mindful videos streaming on screen and QR codes throughout space
Stick together interactive project (virtual and in person)
Lessons on information literacy and using technology safely and responsibly
Work study and mentoring program
No judgement, safe zone
Collaborating with health teachers to support their standards-based goals and needs
Supporting struggling literacy learners
Flexible scheduling and spaces that are responsive to real-time needs of students and staff
Appealing to a wide range of interests and academic levels in order to accommodate as many needs as possible
