4th Grade Policies and Procedures:

The following are the policies and procedures of Bay Haven Charter Academy and the 4th grade team. These guidelines will explain various expectations we have for both the students and the parents.

Classroom Expectations:

BHCA students are expected to be responsible for their own actions and behavior. BHCA parents shall be informed and involved in the discipline process. BHCA staff will present, explain, and monitor expected behaviors for our students. By working as a team, the BHCA students, parents, and staff can ensure a safe, clean, and orderly learning environment. Fourth grade students are expected to know and adhere to the 25 Bay Haven Expectations for Students.

Google Classroom/ Websites:

In consideration of our current circumstances, all students will be required to access Google Classrooms both at school and at home. Google Classroom and other helpful links can be found on teacher’s websites.

Grading Policy:

Grading scale: 90-100 A 80-89 B 70-79 C 60-69 D 0-59 F

Parent Portal (FOCUS): For your student’s accurate grade average please refer to this instead of Google Classroom.

Gradebook Percentages:

70% Summative: including any standards-based mastery assessment, Wonders assessments, Topic assessments in math, Social Studies, and Science tests. Additionally, summative grades might include writing assessments and projects.

30% Formative: including classwork, homework, and quizzes.

Planner:

4th grade students are required to keep a planner to write homework assignments, keep their reading logs, and important events. This is an integral part of training the students how to keep track of their daily activities. The planner is also a tool used to communicate from teacher to parent and vice versa on a daily basis. Parents will be required to sign the planner daily to ensure that students have completed homework and parents are aware of daily progress and behavior.

Homework:

Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday nights. Students will be expected to complete the assignments that evening at home, and return it to school in the morning.

The following is BHCA’s 4th grade homework/class work policy:

Since homework and classwork are assigned to assess students’ learning, it is our policy NOT to accept late homework or class work for a grade. If an assignment is not turned in at the appropriate time, the assignment will receive a grade of zero. Homework is graded on completion, therefore, when your child receives a homework grade of 100%, it indicates completion of all homework. We do not want to penalize students that provide 100% effort, however do not have the support at home to check for accuracy. When less than 100% is noted for the homework grade, the number indicates the percentage of completed homework. Homework is due when the students arrive at school at 7:30 a.m.

Field Trips:

Field trips are instructional opportunities outside the school setting. At this time all field trips have been suspended. We will plan to go to St. Augustine in the spring if it is possible. There will be more information on the St. Augustine trip at a later date.
