Counselor Connection

with Mrs. Olson

A Little Bit About Mrs. Olson:

I am so glad to be here in this community of learners!  I joined the Battle Ground district in the fall of 2022, coming most recently from Salt Lake City, Utah.  I grew up in Arizona, was the first in my family to go to college and decided to become a teacher.  After a few years of teaching history and math, I stayed home with my three children for a time.  After getting my Master's degree in School Counseling and with my kids in school, I returned to the field of education in 2019 - just in time for a pandemic.  I've had many adventures in education and in life that have me convinced of the power that comes with learning, growing, and developing healthy relationships.  It is a privilege to serve students and families who are in this learning and growing process together.

My Family

I am so lucky to have a wonderfully supportive life partner in my husband, MacKay.  My three children keep me on my toes and have challenged me to become a better human.  We make a good team on this journey.

Nature Inspires Me

Studies are increasingly verifying the benefits of spending time outdoors, connecting with nature.  How fortunate we are to live in a place with such vibrant outdoor opportunities - from coastal to mountain and forested settings.

Soup is Food for the Soul

I don't know what it is, but I love a homemade soup.  Maybe it's my creative outlet, because my stick figures will tell you it's not drawing.  I love the whole process of chopping and choosing the ingredients, adding them at the right times - I definitely geek out over soup!

Why am I a School Counselor?

I’ve had the privilege of viewing education through the lens of a student, first generation college graduate, teacher, parent, and school counselor.  I am fully convinced of the need for an educated populus, the power of the process of learning to help an individual become the best version of themselves, and the vast variety of ways we learn and grow.  My hope is for each person who enters our building to grow into a confident citizen who is convinced of their value, talents and skills, capable of making and keeping healthy relationships, willing to help their fellow humans, and ready to make a positive contribution to society - because that is best for all of us.  I know the process of learning requires a certain level of stability in a student’s life, a sense of belonging in the school community, a sense of personal ability to succeed, and as a school counselor, I get to support families and students in making the most of the learning opportunities offered.  It is an honor and a privilege to serve in this capacity.
