Things students will need to have each day at school:
• A backpack large enough to hold a large winter coat, snack, a change of clothing, and a take home folder. (Please label with your child’s name)
• A complete change of clothing that includes a pair of pants, shirt, underwear, and socks. Accidents happen and there are times that the slides or swings may be wet. Wearing damp clothing is uncomfortable and makes for a rough day. There are also times when students slip and get dirty, being muddy and cold all day is also no fun.
• A water bottle with a lid, please do not send plastic water bottles with a screw on lid, Sip-top and Spill-proof please. (Please label with your child’s name)
• A warm coat with a hood for cold and rainy days. The students go outside unless the temperature gets under 45 degrees. On rainy days, they play in the undercover recess area. I recommend sending gloves, scarves, and hats for colder days. (Label w/ child’s name)
• Healthy snacks for them to eat at morning and afternoon snack if attending all day. I recommend sending multiple snacks just in case they are extra hungry. Please do not send in snacks that contain nuts. You can send nut items (trail mix, peanut butter, etc.) in your child’s lunch, but not for snack time as students move from table to table during centers and those with allergies could be exposed to nut residue.
.
• Good shoes for playing on the playground. Flip flops or open toed shoes do not work so well as we have bark chips on the playground.
Parent Partner Days:
• To Partner in class, you will be required to complete a background check through the BGSD. I highly recommend that you do this as soon as possible as there may be a backlog at the beginning of the year. To complete your background check, please click on this link https://www.battlegroundps.org/volunteer/
• When Partnering please plan on being in the classroom the entire program day, including lunch/recess.
• During your volunteer day, you will be on recess duty outside, so please make sure you dress warmly.
• You may be working with a table group, helping individual students, filing student work, maintaining a clean learning environment, organizing projects/materials, making copies, decorating bulletin boards just to name a few.
• You can Partner more than the two required days/month.
• Family members (grandparents/aunts etc..) with a completed background check may come in to come in to fulfill your monthly Partnering hours.
• Unfortunately, siblings under the age of 4 are asked not to attend class with your student. Kindergarteners are distracted by pretty much everything and since our class time is very precious, we need to keep the focus on learning. Please do your best to find childcare for your two Partnering days each month.
• Parent Partner Sign-Ups and your once-a-month Advising meeting with me will be done through an online platform called SignUp.com. A list of links for your volunteering and consultations will be sent out in August. At that time, you can feel free to sign-up month to month or sign up for the entire year. This is how I will keep track of your Parent Partner hours and advising meetings.
