22-23 Orientation Dates: Aug 31, Sept 1-2.
There will be two sessions of orientations each of these days. One in the morning from 10-12 and one in the afternoon from 1-3. Below is a link to the sign-up page to select and date and time to attend. A half hour prior to the orientations with the teachers, that means at 9:20 and 12:30, Mr. Kesler will be holding a brief meeting in the small gym. Please make sure to schedule that into your plans.
The orientation is mandatory for all families and their students. This year we have been directed to withdraw students that do not show up to the first week of school. This means that the student must attend orientation with you.
Please go through the slide presentation to see what curriculum options you have to pick from. You will need to select a reading curriculum, grammar, vocabulary/spelling. You may also need to pick Health/Fitness, Art, or occupational; depending on what electives you selected.
Click on the page below to go to the form to order what curriculum you want.
This is a graph of the weekly hours of school expectations. To get to the number of hours you should be scheduling into your at at-home learning time you should subtract the hours your student is in a class for the subject from the total number of hours and the resulting number is the amount of time that you child should be spending on that subject at home. Example:
The expected number of hours a week your 7/8 grade student should spend on social studies every week is 5.5 hours. They are in my class for 2.5 hours a week. That means they should be spending 3 hours working on social studies at home. For this subject, I provide the materials that they need to work with, for others subjects that may not be the case.
Please bear in mind that if you child struggles, that time spent may need to be increased.
I suggest using this weekly schedule to help you plan out your study schedule for the week. Make sure to plot when you are in school and when you are going to be working on your subjects at home. This can then be posted where you do your school work.
Parent Created Syllabus
If you are choosing to select your own district approved curriculum for your student in any subject area, you will need to create a year-long syllabus. If you are doing this for multiple subjects, you will need to create a syllabus for each one.
The link below will take you to a form to create a syllabus for any subject were you are creating your own course and are not using curriculum that you received from us. You will need to fill it out using the standards provided below.
