Math for the Week of September 21, 2026

What a great first day of math!

In class on Thursday, students worked on saying large numbers and writing them in standard and word form,  and began the IXL Diagnostic. I will set aside one more short block of time for this on Monday, then the rest will need to be completed at home by 9-26-25. I will let you know if they need to finish at home. Students should work on this independently so we can pinpoint where to provide intervention or enrichment. 

I plan to continue the great work that Mrs. Bennion and Mrs. Campbell have set up for Math. Please let me know how I can help and especially if I am missing anything that would help you. 

For this week, we will work on getting on pace with Mrs. Campbell's 4th graders by skipping unnecessary strategies. I promise, we won't skip the concepts, just the pages. Please work on the following:

• GoMath Chapter 1, Lesson 4; (optional) 

• GoMath Chapter 2, Lessons 2 - 3. (Skip Lesson 1 unless you want to review it.) In class, we will be using "rounding to the greatest place" to estimate, then adding or subtracting using the standard algorithm to find the actual. We compare the estimate to the actual to determine whether our answer is "reasonable" **** Parents, you may continue the rounding/algorithm strategy instead of the "expanded form to add" strategy or the "combine place value to subtract" strategy. See examples below. As always, use your discretion.

• Place value models 2Y7,  Value of a digit WLP, Writing numbers up to one million: convert between words and digits 5G4, Order numbers up to one million 94E, Rounding: up to hundred thousands place QV7

• Work on fact fluency using flashcards, dice, cards...whatever it takes :) 

Please turn-in by 10-01-26

• Chapter 2: Lessons: 2.2 (pages 47-48), 2.3 (pages 53-54) Due by 10-1-26

Parents/Students: Please correct the work and reteach if necessary, staple the pages together, make sure the student's first and last name are on the top, parent sign at the top, and turn-in to me during math class.
