Preview and edit pictures before uploading them to the image library. Check the YB Staff Helps page for tips on taking better photos.
Be sure to rename the files BEFORE submitting them online. Otherwise, we may not know who is in the photo if it is simply labeled "image1.jpg." And, there is a possibility that it may overwrite existing photos with the same name. Be safe (and helpful) by giving each photo a unique name that includes the student's name(s) and/or grades -- especially if the faces are not clearly visible.

Image Editing before uploading to Jostens Yearbook Avenue:

as an extension from the Chrome Web Store: Pixlr Editor
Some favorite things to do after selecting the file you wish to edit:
use the Crop tool to remove unwanted portions of the picture surrounding your subject (recommeded: next to the "Constraint" options, select "Output size" and change "Width" and "Height" to 1600 X 1200 (for landscape) or 1200 X 1600 (for portrait) - this is a suggestion when reducing a larger picture, but may not apply when the picture is already small in size
double-click the Zoom tool to see the image at full size; use shift-click with the Zoom tool to reduce the viewing size of your picture
under the "Adjustment" menu: try the "Auto levels" to improve color balance and exposure; if the image (faces) are too dark, try adjusting the "Exposure..." or try the "Brightness & Contrast" controls
under the "Filter" menu: the "Sharpen" and "Denoise" controls may be useful
save the image with a new name and increase the image quality to 90%
