1. Brief description and aims of module:
The aim of this module is to provide you with an introduction to a range of printmaking processes through practical and theoretical means.
Observational skills and the development of a formal visual language will be underpinned by the examination of the idea of a range of printmaking techniques as tools tool to engender creativity and conceptual thinking.
Throughout the module you will be encouraged to contextualise and critically evaluate your work and that of others.
2.Outline syllabus:
Through a series of set projects with an emphasis on individual exploration and investigation, you will develop your fundamental skills in these areas and be introduced to printmaking processes through the use of professional tools, materials and equipment. You will be encouraged to explore a varied range of procedures and techniques relating to both concept and process.
You will explore and develop your ideas through careful research recorded in sketchbooks, research folders and journals/notebooks. There will be a series of seminars and talks introducing you to theoretical and critical approaches to contemporary and historical printmaking.
You will be informed and instructed in safe working practices and will work within the university’s health and safety regulations.

By the close of the module students undertaking the Creative Arts Practice and Combined Awards programmes will have gained the technical foundations to develop an independent programme of study in Printmaking as part of 2D practice at level 5.
