Please note that in order to take this module you must have studied CAP4000-20 Introduction to 2D.
Please also note that this module is a pre-requisite for the Level 5 module CAP5000-20 2D - Practice and Context.
1.Brief description of module
This builds on the first part of the introductory programme to 2D (CAP4000-20).
The module is designed to enable and encourage you to research and experiment with painting and drawing methods and materials, to develop an independent and contextually aware studio practice.
The module aims to facilitate your ability to resolve set and encountered problems specifically relating to 2D practice.
The module will begin to develop your understanding of the importance of presentation and ethical awareness when publicly exhibiting your work.
2.Outline syllabus
In this module you will develop an independent learning contract that is negotiated with your tutor and builds on a tutor set project. Through this you will develop your ideas through a self determined body of work that experiments with methods, materials and concepts relating to contemporary painting and drawing practice.
Studio based seminars and peer reviews will develop your ability to evaluate your practice and communicate your ideas.
The programme of staff lectures will continue to expand your knowledge and understanding of the importance of contextualising practice through research.
The field of art programme of talks by visiting lecturers and careers staff covering a range of subjects associated with the role of the contemporary professional practitioner will help you prepare for an exhibition of your work.
Technical workshops will instruct you in the development of an individual website that will contain pages providing an opportunity for you to enhance your professional profile and showcase your 2D work.
Your online presence will become an important record of your progress and the development of your practice and the link should be clearly identified in future submissions of supporting work (ie your context folder).

Group critiques.
Individual tutorials that support regular reflective evaluation of personal ambition and progress

A range of tasks, learning materials and research guides will be published on Minerva to support the module
