🏛️ About the Department

The Department of Zoology of Basirhat College was established in 1980. After 16 years of establishment of the department, in 1996 the Zoology Honours Programme was introduced under the affiliation of University of Calcutta. From 2010 onwards the college as well as the department is affiliated under West Bengal State University, Barasat. The department is following Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for both Zoology Honours and General Programme from 2018.

The department has well-built infrastructure with laboratories, class rooms and a departmental library. The laboratories are well-equipped with all its facilities. The Department regularly organizes fieldtrip to the places of zoological interest and encourages students in various zoological projects like biodiversity study and behaviour study.

The objective of this department is to develop scientific interest in students about diversity of life processes and its interaction with environment, so that students could utilize their acquired knowledge not only for prosperity in their professional life but also to become better human being.
