The Department of Physics of Basirhat College started its journey in the year 1969 and has completed 52 glorious years in providing quality education as well as exposure to its students in different fields. Since its inception it remains one of the most rich and productive Departments of the college. The faculty consists of experienced teachers who are acknowledged for their contribution to the field of teaching and research in Physics. Faculties are constantly encouraged students to be engaged actively in the educational activities. The Department motivate students to participate warmly and discuss and share their thoughts and opinions through group discussions, class presentation and student seminar. Faculty members not only focuses on education but works for developing personal qualities such as teamwork, determination, flexibility, confidence, self-esteem, respect, etc., for shaping a versatile personality in students. 

The department has an well equipped Laboratories for both Honours and and General undergraduate courses. The departmental library has good collection of text and reference books. The department has also a computer laboratory with computers connected through LAN with internet facility.
