Professional development is supposed to be valuable and engaging, not time consuming or mundane. While there are benefits to participating in district-wide presentations, in recent years, it became apparent that Bellefonte staff and faculty desired more from their continuous learning opportunities.
Knowing that employees were hungry for new ideas, the 2016-2017 school year ushered in BASD's new professional development model. In an effort to provide participant-driven training opportunities for all faculty and staff, Bellefonte adopted a "sessions" framework and rebranded its inservice days as "Professional Learning" (PL). Guest presenters from area agencies were invited to our campus to provide valuable information about our health, wellness, our local community, and many other content and strategy-related sessions were facilitated by our own members. This new structure has allowed teachers and district personnel to learn and grow from their colleagues and community and has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from its participants and facilitators.
New sessions are being developed for the current school year. If you have suggestions or questions about professional learning opportunities, please visit the Presenter Information page or see a member of the committee (member roster available on the homepage) or email Sommer Garman.
