Welcome to 5th grade math class with Mrs. Geyer!
Our math class is 90 minutes long. The first 30 minutes of class will be - Word Problem of the Day, math extension activity, Khan Academy/ESpark, or small group reteaching of past skills.
The last 60 minutes of class will be for a new whole group lesson and guided/independent practice time.
Math Buzz - Students will be given a Math Buzz on the first day of each week. It is a review of skills that have already been learned. The Math Buzz can be worked on at home or in school, but it is ALWAYS due on Friday or on the last day of the school week.
Reflex - 5th graders will be working on Reflex this year! Everyone is starting on addition/subtraction. Once 100% fluent, they will move to multiplication/division. It is our goal to get green lights AT LEAST 3 times a week. Once students are 100% fluent in multiplication and division, they are done with Reflex for the year! Students can do Reflex at school, but are also welcome to do it at home if they choose.

About me
This is my 19th year of teaching, but only my 6th year in 5th grade. I have previously taught both kindergarten and 2nd grade. I am so excited to be teaching ONLY math this year! It has always been my favorite subject!
I have 2 daughters, Lucy and Finley. Lucy is currently in 7th grade and Finley is in 5th grade. They keep my husband and I very busy. We also have a basset hound named Leo! When I am not teaching, I love to exercise, cook, and go shopping!
If you should ever need to get a hold of me, the best way is through my school email - jgeyer@basd.net.
