Below are some helpful tips for Maktab and Madrasah teachers that could be applied to their live online classes.
Set up your workspace at home
Find a location with strong WiFi connectivity.
Find a quiet space to conduct your class from.
Ensure there is plenty of natural light if you are going to use the camera.
Find a clutter-free background when presenting with a webcam.
Be considerate of your students' workspaces. Not every household will have the same access to technology.
Maintain a stronger network connection during the class
Ask students to mute their microphones and turn off their cameras, until it is their turn to demonstrate their learning.
Share Your Screen
If you are using Google Meet on a Computer or Laptop you have the option to share your screen. Here you can show your students slides, notes, or even a Web Copy the Qur'an - (Example).
When you choose to show your screen you should only have the required pages open; ensure your other screens are closed and no personal information is visible.
Record Your Lesson
Some of your students may not be able to log in to the lesson at the same time. For example if a family has multiple kids but limited amount of technology resources.
You can record your lesson and then share it with your students through Email or a Site that you can create.
Student Options
Ideally a student will connect over a laptop or computer. However they can also use a tablet or even a mobile phone by installing the Google Hangouts Meet app.
Alternatively in your meeting details you will also get a call in option. This is available for students to connect by calling into the meeting. They will be able to listen and respond but not see the lesson.
Student Groups
If you have a large number of students break them up into smaller groups.
2-3 students for 15-20 minutes will be a lot more effective them keeping the entire group for the full 2 hours.
You can make the groups based on skill level or lesson.
