Eastleigh Town is excited to be part of the Hampshire-wide Greening Campaign, a community-driven initiative tackling Climate Change and Biodiversity. We are at a pivotal moment in history, facing the urgent challenge of protecting our planet for future generations. Climate change is already reshaping weather patterns and causing extreme events more frequently than ever before. The scale of the problem can feel overwhelming, leaving many wondering what difference they can make.
That’s where the Greening Campaign comes in. With a clear, structured approach, it empowers communities to take meaningful action at a pace that suits them. Whether it’s small everyday changes or larger projects, every step counts. By working together, we can turn concern into action and help create a greener, more sustainable future.
We’re aiming to plant 160,000 more trees in Eastleigh Borough by the year 2030.
As part of Eastleigh Borough Council’s plan to tackle the climate and environmental emergency, we have announced our most ambitious tree planting target ever; 160,000 more trees will mean an additional tree for every person living in the Borough by the year 2030.
But we can’t achieve this target alone. We need the support of our local businesses, community organisations and residents to make Eastleigh a leafier place to live.

Using surplus food to inspire and empower our team whilst feeding our community
'One of the main things I wanted to keep as a central part of this was to use surplus food (food destined for landfill) to ensure we save food waste. This is why we use Fareshare, along with working alongside other businesses who collect surplus food, to bring me the ingredients to make our homecooked meals. '

Southampton Bike Kitchen is a free community workshop providing tools and advice to keep you pedalling. We’ll help you work on your own bike and learn the skills necessary to fix it in the future rather than pay for someone else to do it for you.
This is not like a normal bike shop where you collect your bike later – you are central to this! It is a fun, interactive experience and you’ll enjoy getting your hands dirty! You know what they say, teach a man to fish…Southampton Bike Kitchen is run by volunteers and backed by Cycling UK and Transition Southampton. There’s more on our background and motivation in this blog post.
