About this class

In order to provide the mathematical foundation required for college, career, and community students in Ms. Tyris' class will:

  • spend more time diving deeply (and more conceptually) into the most important mathematics principles
  • emphasize critical thinking, collaboration, practical application, and problem solving

Mathematical writing

In order for students to develop their conceptual understanding of important mathematics principles they will be asked to write out justifications and explanations of their solutions. This could be in the style of paragraph explanations and/or annotated calculations.

Homework

Homework is given every Monday and to be turned in every Friday. This format is to be respectful of outside obligations students and their families may have. I understand that students are sometimes unable to complete homework on a particular night, therefore having an entire week allows students to become more accountable in the planning of their week while still developing their mathematical skills.

Tutoring

Tutoring will be provided every Monday and Wednesday after school from 2:15- 3:00. Students planning on attending should let me know the morning of so that I can prepare materials catering to that student's specific needs.
