π Greetings friend! I'm Melissa, a lifelong technology enthusiast, gadget nerd, creative technologist, polyglot and digital nomad.
I have a compulsion for consistency, clean data and elegant systems. My first job as a preteen was in data entry. I've loved data, details and computers ever since.
The story of my life in tech started at a single digit age when I was given my first personal computer, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer self study books and Encarta CD-ROMs.
Having the luxury of being "left to my own devices" I acquired an endless wonder and outlook for what we can build with the aid of technology and especially the internet.
Endless hours reading Encarta filled me with a deep wanderlust and desire to learn languages. As a young adult I spent some years living abroad while working in the travel industry; a temporary career path which permitted me to become a polyglot and world traveler.
Those years abroad provided me with the soft skills that I rely on today in my work managing change in organizations. Empathy, adaptability, reasoning, and mentorship are the tools that I use to facilitate organizational overhauls. Without compassion, it's difficult to ask stakeholders, managers and teams to throw away their old work habits to follow you into the void.
While this process can be daunting and a cause of conflict, I've gained great personal satisfaction from seeing teams evolve from total refusal to change, to total platform adoption, usually in a short amount of time. That is the power of a beautifully built enterprise environment that puts people above process.
One anecdote that is close to my heart is the story of a dental office manager, who had only ever known the realities of "old school" systems, confronting me with panic about the organization's impending migration to Google Workspace. I asked them to put their faith in me, and reiterated that I was there to make everyone's lives easier. She wearily accepted the forces of change that could no longer be avoided. Within 48 hours this manager was not only converted but an evangelist herself, mentoring her team on their new, easier systems and efficient workflows.
I believe that when teams have simple and efficient solutions to their daily challenges, scale is inevitable.
