Need help planning your vacation? This handy schedule can get you on track! Follow this agenda to get your vacation on track.
Day 1: Drive to JFK airport in New York and take a flight to Mandalay. This should take more than a day of travel and layovers. You could go to the Kuthodaw Pagoda, a lovely temple in the city. But the travel may have taken it out of you, so you might just want to go to bed.
Day 2: Explore Mandalay's historic Buddhist monasteries, like the Kuthodaw Pagoda and the Shwenandaw Monastery. Also visit the city's replica of the ancient palace that once stood as the center of the nation's government.
Day 3: Take a flight to Bagan, a city at the banks of Myanmar's Irrawaddy river. The flight should only take about half an hour, so you should have plenty of time to explore the city, especially Htilominlo, a massive Buddhist temple outside of the city.
Day 4: Get a taxi to Mt Popa, an extinct volcano that is the highest point in the nation. Take a hike up its historic slopes, but make sure you get back to the city by night, there's another day of travel ahead of you.
Day 5: Take another 30 minute flight from Bagan to Yangon, the last stop on your journey. Gaze in wonder at the Shwedagon Pagoda, and walk through Bogyoke Park, which stretches out into the beautiful lake Kandawgyi.
Day 6: Drive out to visit the Htauk Kyant war memorial, built in memory of the thousands of Burmese who died fighting and at the hands of the Japanese in the second world war. Then explore Hlawga national park.
Day 7: Visit the Karaweik, a replica of the old Burmese royal barge that now hosts a restaurant. Spend the day exploring the city, there are so many things to do that we haven't covered here. Do whatever you want, just have fun.
Day 8: Take another long flight back to the good old U.S of A. We hope that you enjoyed your trip to this exotic Asian destination.
