Tutoring at Barnesville High School
Tutoring is a service offered voluntarily by students at Barnesville High School. These students are made up of volunteers from the student body. Generally, the tutor and student meet one or two times a week during their eight hour homeroom hour. In some cases, they may meet before or after school. The demand for tutors is generally higher than the number of tutors available. Because of this fact, it is necessary to make sure the student receiving tutoring services is taking full advantage of all the help that is available to them.
This means:
Using time wisely in school and at home
Seeking help from their teachers in and out of class, when the teacher in available
Student must also be completing and turning in homework to show they are making the effort to do their best
Taking advantage of opportunities such as re-test and turning in late homework for points, or extra-credit opportunities (policies may vary from teacher to teacher)
The conditions listed above are necessary because tutoring will not, by itself, make a student pass their course. It is a part of the recipe for success. It’s important that the students who get tutors are students who really want to improve. Tutors are giving their time and are there to provide help and to share strategies and not to provide answers. If the above conditions are not met, the tutor may be reassigned to someone else.
Please contact the School Counselor to inquire about availability of tutors.
