2020 Illinois River Closure - Closures for repairs at various Locks on the Illinois River have begun and will last until the end of October 2020

The recent flood event on the Illinois has NOT impacted the start date to the extensive lock work on the Illinois River. Lock closures begin July 1st and the river is not scheduled to fully reopen until November 1st. Final dates for loading and unloading barges above the closure are rapidly approaching over the coming days. See the below links for details regarding this highly impactful event.

2020 Illinois Closeout 2020 Illinois Lock Closure Summary

Today's Key Issues

  • Lock & Dam 52 Blasting TODAY, October 22 ....... River will be closed between 1000-14000 CT today to continue the blasting project around mile 939 on the Ohio River.

  • Lower Mississippi Low Water Issues- Due to low water conditions on the Lower Miss, fleets are reporting extreme congestion and delays due to decreased operating capabilities. The industry is seeing multiple days of delay at severely impacted areas such as Greenville, Memphis, and Osceola. ACBL will not wait at fleeting locations with more than normal delay. We expect prompt service when we arrive at these locations.

  • Lower Miss Closure Above Memphis - Starting next Wednesday 10/21/2020, Luhr Bros will be requesting river closure for southbound traffic for rock operations at Cedar Point (759 LMR). They will be working daily from 0700-1800. We anticipate the work to last 10-14 days total. North bound traffic will be able to pass during working hours

  • 2020 Closure at Industrial Lock (LM 93) - USACE and GICA have established an alternate route during a prolonged closure at INHC Locks in NOLA, which began on September 4th and is scheduled to end November 20th. USCG has advised that repairs to the St. Claude Bridge requiring no vessel traffic 24hrs per day will coincide with this closure. Further details can be found on our 2020 Industrial Lock Closure page.

  • Lagrange Lock (IR 80) has reopened after being closed since July 1! - The Illinois River is now open up to Starved Rock Lock (IR 231)

  • L&I Railroad Bridge (OR 604) repairs in October ..... River is NOW OPEN at OR604 and locking has begun. Next closure begins on 11/4 at 0700.

  • Gulf and Canals Weather Update - Expect fog to intermittently impact operations on the Lower Miss and Canals as the temps cool off headed into late Fall. Good operating conditions otherwise, with seasonal wind intermittently delaying transit on the canals. Weather front today, 10/21, has cleared out the fog but driving some delays to crossing bays, sounds, and the alternate route on the Canals.
