At SOGO Adventure Running we embrace the joy of being active, having a great time outdoors and appreciating nature. We have job opportunities available for energetic, dependable, self-reliant individuals who love the outdoors, physical activity, and working with kids. We thrive on helping kids develop their navigation and physical literacy skills, all the while developing their confidence in outdoor settings.
SOGO Adventure running delivers weekly community programs in Calgary, Cochrane and Bragg Creek and offers programs for Calgary Schools during the spring and fall. Our programs are about getting kids, ages 2-18, outside and moving in natural environments. Kids are introduced to the sport of orienteering through running, map-reading, navigation skills and lots of outdoor games.

SOGO@School Coaches
SOGO is seeking coaches to assist with our School programs which run daily during the school days from late-April to late-June.Weekly Program Coaches
SOGO is seeking coaches to assist with our weekly programs which run from mid-April to late-June 2023. We run programs from 5 - 7:30 pm Monday through Thursdays in Calgary, 5 - 7:30 pm on Wednesdays in Cochrane and 10 am - 1:30 on Saturdays in Bragg Creek. We are looking for coaches who have: great rapport with kids of all ages, excellent customer service skills, loads of enthusiasm, a love of being outdoors and great coaching skills. Orienteering skills are a definite asset, but we are happy to teach you if you don’t have those skills yet.
We pay our coaches between $16 - $25 based on experience.
Key Goals
To help the SOGO team deliver excellent quality SOGO Adventure Running programs
Provide excellent leadership and customer service to all participants and families.
Responsibilities
Read and comprehend lesson plans ahead of time and come to assigned programs prepared to deliver the content of the lesson plans with enthusiasm and professionalism.
Enthusiastically be involved with all aspects of our program delivery on-site: set-up, organization, delivery and take-down of our SOGO programs.
Exude excellent customer service skills at all times, with participants, fellow SOGO personnel, parents, teachers, etc.
Ensure participants are having a positive experience while maintaining a safe environment for all.
Provide constructive feedback to improve future SOGO programming
Desired Skills & Qualifications
Standard First Aid
NCCP Introduction to Community Coaching level certification, Orienteering preferred.
Other CCA/ NCCP coaching courses considered an asset
Experience leading youth activities, preferably in an outdoor setting
Experience coaching orienteering or navigation-based sports is an asset
Excellent communication skills
Experience with working with volunteers
Understanding of Long Term Athlete Development Models and knowledge of Physical Literacy
Knowledge of Foothills Orienteering programs, events, procedures
Ability to communicate enthusiastically with athletes, parents, volunteers, club members.
Ability to arrange transportation to and from SOGO sessions
Program structure
Foothills Orienteering Club is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run sports club that provides orienteering training and competition opportunities for its members, and promotes the development of orienteering in Southern Alberta. The SOGO Adventure Running program is one of the club’s most important development programs. This program is guided by the club’s Junior Development Committee, which is chaired by the club’s VP Junior Development.
