This unit focuses on using maps to explore geographical and human-made features. In the Leveled Book Cindi Takes A Road Trip, students are introduced to different areas across the United States and some features found in those areas. Throughout the unit, have students identify different features in their state and community, such as land and water features, cities and other important landmarks. In the Chapter Book, Visiting North America , students follow two characters as they plan for and go on trips to Canada and Mexico. Students learn about the geographical and human-made characteristics of both places, as well as how to use different types of maps. Encourage students to discuss a trip they may have been on and how that place is different or the same from the city in which they live.
