Hi! My name is Crissy Burkey and I teach Special Education. Before my teaching career, I explored the field of special education working in group homes and volunteering in Africa. Volunteering in a third world country was an eye opening and awesome experience! It has been an awesome responsibility and privilege to help students with disabilities make progress on life skills and academic goals that some say they could never do. For example, two years ago, I taught a student to speak who was nonverbal until he was eleven. The first time he spoke the words, “I love you” to his grandmother, tears rolled down her cheeks and it was special. So, this is what I do and this is who I am. When school is over, I love going home to my family. I am a wife and mother of two fun and energetic kiddos. We are always having fun, which is like my teaching style!
