Language Arts

We are currently past the halfway point in The Lightning Thief! We are now study myths along with the book. students are learning about universal themes and comparing themes across texts. We are working with the myths of Cronus and Prometheus and finding evidence to support the theme within these myths as well as in The Lightning Thief.

Study of The Elements of Myths will help us to understand what makes a myth a myth and how we can connect the two.

We will also be reviewing Pronouns, practice our writing skills, and answering questions to show comprehension.

I teach Language Arts for all of the 6th grade. In this class we will read, write, research, and discuss all things related to reading, writing , and grammar. We will read a variety of things including informational (non-fiction), fiction, narrative, persuasive, poetry, speeches, song lyrics, articles, and more!

This year I will be using a new curriculum from EngageNY. It is a highly regarded curriculum that meets all 6th grade Common Core State Standards. It may contain books students have previously read for fun. The difference will be that we will analyze the writing, author's purpose, themes, etc. in the novels and relate them to other types of literature. I am very excited to share this curriculum with my students!
