As a teenager, Alexander attended Royal High School in Edinburgh. At the age of 12 Alexander created his first invention, which removes husk from a flour mill. At 15, Bell was sent to London where met met Charles Wheatstone who inspired him into making the telephone.
Teacher of Deaf
In 1871, Alexander became a teacher for the deaf, working in Boston, Massachusetts. Bell taught visible speech, which he illustrates how sounds are made through a series of drawings. He helped his students be aware of sounds around them by letting them feel vibrations. In 1873 he met Mabel Hubbard (one of his students he tutored), and would later marry her in 1877.
