All assignments and announcements will be posted on Google Classroom.
Announcements will be posted in the Stream.
To-Do Lists will be posted in the Classwork tab.
Assignments will be posted in the Classwork tab.
All assignments will be turned in through Google Classroom.
Remember to check for feedback on your assignments. Sometimes assignments will be returned without a grade because a revision needs to be made.
Assignment instructions will be included.
If assignments are posted before we meet as a class, that means that you can begin working on them early if you so choose. If I do not want you to work ahead, I will wait to post the assignments until our class begins.
You will need your iPad for class, as all materials are posted in Google Classroom.
Bring your charger to class if your iPad has a low battery.
We will do activities in which iPads will not be used. When I tell the class to put iPads away, you must put the iPad away.
Cell phones must be placed in the caddy at the beginning of class. Students may not retrieve their cell phones until the teacher allows them to do so.
If a student is using a cell phone or unauthorized electronic device during class, the device will be taken away. This is documented.
The first offense is a warning and the student can take their device back at the end of class.
The second offense and on result in a lunch detention and the device will be taken to the office.
It is the responsibility of the student to let me know if there are any issues with the class. (Unclear instructions, broken links, assignments that won't load, etc.)
If it is not communicated to me that something needs to be fixed, I will not know that I need to make changes. Please let me know if there is an issue so I can fix it as soon as possible.
If you have a technical issue, take a screenshot that shows the issue (if possible) so we can better address it. You could also record your screen to show the issue in action.
It is the responsibility of the student to put in the work necessary to learn the content and skills. This includes completing the work in his or her own words to show me that he or she understands the content and skills.
Plagiarism is using the ideas of another as one’s own without proper acknowledgement of the source or submitting not original work.
Cheating is prohibited.
First offense = a student conference, parent phone call, and lunch detention
Second offense = a student conference, parent phone call, and an after school detention
In order to reassess, you must complete an Academic Dishonesty Referral Form.
AI, or artificial intelligence, is a technology used to do tasks that normally involve human intelligence. Some examples of AI include using spellcheck, predictive text, generating text, simulating conversation, and much more. AI is a tool and must be used responsibly. AI generators such as ChatGPT are only available for use without parental permission by individuals 18 and older. Extensive use of AI, such as generating text and submitting it as your own work, is considered academic dishonesty and will result in the consequences outlined above.
All assignments will be assigned and turned in through Google Classroom.
Grade weights
Summative = 90%
Formative = 10%
Everything will be graded on a 3-point scale based on our learning targets.
Revisions are allowed on most formative and summative assessments.
The deadline for formative revisions is the summative assessment for that unit.
The deadline for summative assessments will depend on the assessment.
Revisions are not allowed on quizzes, which are categorized as formative.
I use a 3-point grading scale based on the Wisconsin Standards for Social Studies (target-based grading). This scale represents students' understanding of a concept or acquisition of skills, rather than one point for each correct question. The four points are as follows:
3 - Proficient - The student understands the skill and can provide ample evidence of mastery.
2 - Approaching - The student somewhat understands the skill and can provide some evidence of mastery.
1 - Beginning - The student understands what is required to master the skill but struggles to show evidence of mastery and requires assistance to provide evidence of mastery.
0 - Insufficient - There is not enough evidence to assign a grade; the student must reassess or revise.
Sometimes one assignment will have more than one grade in the grade book. This will happen if more than one standard is being addressed in the assignment. (One grade per standard/learning target.)
Rubrics will be provided on Google Classroom for all graded assignments. Some assignments will not be formally graded but will be used to better help me determine students' understanding.
Missing assignments will be marked with "MI," which means "Missing Included." A score marked as "MI" counts as a zero. Once the summative assessment is completed, assignments reported as "missing" may no longer be completed for credit, and the score will be changed to a zero (0/3). A 0 represents "insufficient evidence," meaning there is not enough evidence of mastery for me to assign a score for that particular assignment.
