ADVOCACY COMMITTEE MISSION STATEMENT:
We advocate that music education is the core to a student’s physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth.
Provides advocacy resources for district membership
Partnering with Iowa Alliance for Arts Education and Iowa High School Music Association with mentorship and Advocacy Day with state legislatures
Schedule and prepare 3 meetings: one during the May IBA Conference, one during the July IBA Workshop, one during the year when needed.

District presidents nominate 2-3 potential future leaders to submit to the President-Elect or past president.
People should be able to self-nominate.
Needs to be some kind of nomination form that discusses that person’s traits or qualifications. “What makes them stand out as a future leader?”
Reviewed by the Executive Board.
How can Advocacy work with PR & Social Media to promote what we’re doing with schools and in our communities?
Directors submit pictures with captions for publishing on social media
Directors submit pictures and small articles for IBA Magazine/e-News features

ADVOCACY COMMITTEE
Committee Structure
The IBA Advocacy Committee consists of a representative from each of the six districts of IBA (NCIBA, NEIBA, NWIBA, SCIBA, SEIBA, SWIBA) to serve a three-year term, with a second successive term at the discretion of the district membership.
The IBA Advocacy Committee Chair shall be appointed by the President of IBA, and shall be selected from the members of the IBA Advocacy Committee. The duties of the Chair shall include:
Schedule and prepare an agenda for at least two (2) meetings of the IBA Advocacy Committee to be held in conjunction with the Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference in May and the summer IBA meeting and Work Session. Additional meetings will be held as required.
Attend all IBA business meetings and submit a report detailing the work of the IBA Advocacy Committee.
Maintain accurate records and files with regard to the work of the IBA Advocacy Committee, and share these materials with the members of the IBA Advocacy Committee, the President of IBA, and the IBA Executive Board, as necessary/appropriate.
Serve as a liaison between the IBA Advocacy Committee and the Iowa Alliance for Arts Education, the IBA Mentorship Committee
