Question?
When starting a new game of Frodge, where can I place my frog token if there aren't enough lilypads to start next to?
Answer!
Since the Pathway Cards will move A LOT during the game, you may freely swap the starting column of Pathway Cards with the other cards, to ensure there are enough lilypads for all players in the game. Try to not swap around too many Pathway Cards - you don't want anyone to start off with an unfair advantage!
Some players like to devise their own rules for how to start a game of Frodge. See the Extra Rules section for optional/house rules!
Question?
Can I draw a card, then play that card?
Answer!
Yes! You may take two actions during your turn, and these can be any combination of the three available actions (remember, if you draw a card, and you have five (5) cards in your hands, you must IMMEDIATELY discard any one (1) card.
Question?
Can the Leap Action Card be used to leap to the finish? Off the other end of the pond?
Answer!
Yes it can! Despite the text on the card saying that your frog jumps to a lilypad, the finish line also counts as a lilypad for these purposes.
Expand your Frodge games with these extra rules!
After the first player is decided by the 'ribbit race' (first person to say ribbit), players take turns placing their frog token next to any space on a Pathway Card (whether there's a lilypad or not) on the starting side of the pond, beginning with the player who will take the last turn, then continuing in a counter-clockwise direction (opposite from the usual direction of play).
Some players will say this is the optimal, most fair setup method for Frodge!
Sometimes, 8 player Frodge can get a little cramped. While this is partially intentional, you may choose to play without the '1 frog per lilypad' rule, allowing players to stack on top of each other. I call this the 'Frodges All the Way Up!' rule!
The simplicity of the Frodge rules allows you to combine multiple copies of Frodge to have 16, even 24 players games. But! For any Frodge game above 8 I would highly recommend applying the 'Frodges All the Way Up!' rule.
With this slight rule adjustment, how will your Frodge games stack up?
New cards, new gameplay, new FROGS! The first expansion for Frodge adds a whole host of new tricks into the game, including new ways to play!
If you step on a Goldipad, you gain one extra Action for that turn! Place a Small Lilypad Tile on top of the Goldipad to indicate that it has been used up, then dash onwards!
Goldipads are a powerful new mechanic in Frodge: Mire Madness, so to keep things balanced, each row will only get one Pathway Card with a Goldipad on it! Place this tile in the third column away from the starting column (you can always use an Uproot card to bring it closer to you!)
Question?
Can the Straight Hopper Action Card be used to move diagonally?
Answer!
In the official rules... no. This was the most problematic card during playtesting, and ultimately the Straight Hopper card created some imbalance around diagonal movement that I preferred to keep... in balance.
That being said, if you're feeling up to the challenge, you're welcome to include Diagonal Straight Hoppering in your games of Frodge! Just don't complain when your buddy crosses the whole map in a blink of an eye...
Question?
With the Lily-Plop card; can I place small tiles on other frogs?
Answer!
Like with the Uproot Action Card, placing small tiles, water or lilypads, cannot be done on top of other frogs. You can place it right next to other frogs, however!
Question?
How does the Tad-Party Card work?
Answer!
This is a super fun, and surprisingly strategic card! Since you have to give some of your drawn cards to other players, be wary of drawing 4 cards every time, as it means your opponents could be getting a card they want, even if you thought that card you gave them wasn't too bad.
Team up with, and against, your friends in this 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4 version of Frodge!
Refined for the Mire Madness expansion, Together We Frodge challenges players to be the first team to cross the pond first... but it isn't that simple.
Each team starts on one end of the pond... Ok, it was pretty simple. But what happens when you meet in the middle?!
During Together We Frodge, allied frogs may play any Action Card in their hand on any of their other allies. This means that you could play a Leap card on your buddy, so they can Uproot for you later on! Be careful of discussing your strategy too loudly, otherwise the other team might counter you!
Once a player makes it across the other side, they continue to play the game as normal, except they can no longer make any frog movement actions. They can still draw and play Action Cards to help out their teammates!
