In the 2026 legislative session our coalition will champion a bill to repeal the no strike law for public school staff and library workers.
Our coalition has engaged workers and their unions, students, families, and community members to learn more about this issue and join our fight.
Broken Promises - Time and time again, school districts and state and local legislatures have broken promises they made to resource schools and public services, leaving workers overworked and the public underserved.
Leveling the Playing Field - Legalizing the right to strike helps ensure that leaders deliver on their commitments NOW - not after the next election cycle.
Making strikes illegal doesn’t prevent them. When workers are organized and fed up, they go on strike whether it’s legal or not.
Legal strikes are recognized by law as a legitimate action that workers can take. When strikes are legal, they act as a check on management’s responsibility to do right by workers and the public.
Illegal strikes or wildcat strikes are prohibited, but they occur when workers disobey the law and take action anyway. Wildcat strikes can come with legal penalties, including fines and decertification.
