Josh Baxter level up by Gavin Brown is about a teenager going to a new school where he plays it like a game. He encounters a lot of difficult situation where he thinks of other video game characters to act like what they would do. Every chapter, he most of the time levels up, gains new skills from what happened before. I would recommend this to people who likes to read easy books because I would say grade 1-3 can read this with ease. (Jiwan. Grade 6)

Josh Baxter Levels Up is a book about a young teen named Josh Baxter who had just moved from his old school for a job his mom took up. He is a great artist and likes to sketch and draw many different people in forms or video game characters like The Mitten Monster or The Math Gym Leader.

In just the first week in his new school, Josh already encounters his first enemy because of a single giggle. Throughout the book, he has to find new allies and learn new skills. To motivate himself, he makes an accomplishment board and his goal is to fill up the entire thing with green stars that represent his achievements.

This book has a video game-style description of every major and minor person he encounters, it includes his teachers, peers, enemies and his family. It is a great addition to the book because it is meant to be narrated in a way that feels like you are watching someone play a video game!

This book would be a realistic-fiction story. I would give this book a 4 out of 5 rating for the plot and characters with their descriptions and a 1 out of 5 rating for the difficulty level of vocabulary. (Philippe. Grade 7)
