Blackbird Fly, written by Erin Entrada Kelly is about a girl named Apple. Her dad died when she was very young and then she and her mother moved to America. There, Apple goes to school, though things don't end up exactly as she had wished. She finds herself on the list for the ten most ugly girls in school and her only escape is music. Her friends turn against her and her mother doesn't allow her to get a guitar. She faces many problems and proves herself to get respected and to not get bullied anymore. She also helps others to build up again and get their self confidence back. I would rate this book 3/5 and the word vocabulary wasn't too difficult. (Enya. Grade 6)

Blackbird Fly by Erin Entrada Kelly is fit into the category of realistic fiction, the book might seem a bit thick but when you read it you don't feel that it is thick. The thing about this book is that the beginning is long but near the middle you kind of get it. Although in my opinion, the ending was not the best I think that it could have told me more about the ending. I still have so many questions. Like why did she end up not going or why she did not keep her original name. The reading level for this book is pretty low compared to others you could read. Also, I think she was kind of stupid because she could have practiced guitar before if she did it during lunch. Or she could have saved money earlier instead of asking her mom 50 times, she also could have asked to borrow money from friends and saved her allowance to pay them back. Even though in the end it all worked out I still think the ending could have been better. (Elsa. Grade 7)
